Golf Pro Shop News
By Chad Helms, Head Golf Professional
Happy New Year!
On behalf of the entire golf staff we’d liked to wish everyone a safe and happy 2012. With the new year comes exciting news about golf. We have revamped our leagues to provide a more competitive yet balanced competition for both Men’s and Ladies' golf associations. The golf schedule for both associations is available at the pro shop, and will soon be posted on the Cheval web site. Currently we are in the process of updating the web site, as well as the member login section. You will see some additions that will provide each member a variety of information. For future events at the club or to stay informed with club news, please refer to the Cheval web site.
I would also like to add that during the course of the 2012 season, we will be promoting a selection of new and exciting golf events. The pro shop will be offering a variety of individual and team games throughout the year that will be open to all members. We will also be offering a couples league that will take place on Sunday’s. Both are great opportunities for members to come and enjoy good company, while playing an enjoyable round of golf with your peers. More information will be coming out in the next few weeks so please keep a look out for the emails.
Finally, the golf and tennis staff is in the process of putting together our summer calendar. We will be offering summer camps to cater to all of our junior members. In addition to these joint summer camps, the golf staff will also be offering a variety of clinics to all members. Information will be coming out soon, so be sure to make your plans early to get the kids involved. 2012 is going to be full of events and we look forward to seeing all of our members throughout the year.
I wish everyone a great 2012 golf season!

Seasons greetings from the greens! For the remainder of the season, the greens will remain the same height. Although we did not get to verticut or airify as much as we would have liked to this summer, we will be working harder on that in the spring. We will also continue to top dress and pencil tine. In January, we will be repairing drainage and surrounding tree work.

Just want to remind everyone that January 4th - 6th, from 9 to 11 am, is our boot camp for the upcoming tennis season. We will be tackling a variety of topics. On Wednesday, we will be working on basic stroke production, feeding lots of balls and hitting all the major areas. On Thursday, we will be covering specialty shots like lobbing and half volleys, mixed in with situational point play, where we put a specific situation in motion during a point. On Friday, we will play have match play. It would be great if you could bring your partner that day. If not, we will put you with partners ourselves. No worries either way.
On that note, it would be helpful if you could R.S.V.P. if you know you are going to attend. We'd rather not have a bunch of people show up unannounced and be understaffed. We would like to make this big enough where we can invite other pro's in the area to come help us out.
The price is $25 per session. For all 3, it's $60. R.S.V.P by Tuesday January 3rd and get an extra $5 dollars off.
We would really like to see a big turnout for this. Please let us know A.S.A.P if you can attend.
Cheval will be hosting the USTA Boys 14 Florida Sectionals from January 7-9. Come out to see Florida's up and coming tennis stars playing on your home courts. Courts will be limited that weekend, so if you are planning to play, please be sure to call ahead first.
Cheval's Members Only Australian Open will be held on January 14th. We would love a big turnout for this so be sure to sign up. Registration ends on January 12th.
Starting January 2nd, our junior programming will get rolling in 2012. We have had a great response to our After-School Tennis and will continue to offer those classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will have two groups participating:
1. 4:30 - 5:00 -This group will be for 6 years and younger. This group is learning general coordination, hand/eye coordination exercises and beginning stroke mechanics.
2. 5:00 - 6:00 - This group will be primarily between the ages of 6 to 12. It will be geared toward introduction of stroke mechanics, hand/eye coordination exercises, and general tennis principles. We also introduce the new USTA 36' and 60' 10 and under tennis format.
For juniors ages 10-18 we will offer our future stars program from 5-6:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This program is for juniors with some tennis experience and looking toward playing in tournaments.
Please call the tennis team at 813-948-4010 Ext. 2 to register your kids for the classes.
Yours in tennis,
Eric Dobsha
