Course Details

Four sets of tees provide a challenge to golfers of all ability levels on this par 72 layout featuring 5 par threes and 5 par fives. The golf course can play as short as 5781 yards to an incredibly long 7021 yards.  The two sets of tees in between measure 6147 yards and 6508 yards respectively.

Designed by Steve Smyers, this beautifully mature and meticulously maintained course meanders through Cheval Development's gated community where cypress trees abound along with native Florida wildlife including deer, alligators, otters, eagles, wading birds and more.  Large elevated tees provide for optimum conditions and large landing areas around the well-bunkered elevated hand-mowed greens provide a picturesque setting unequaled in Greater Tampa Bay.  Not the typical Florida course, Cheval has elevation changes, drains well, has water in play on 17 of 18 holes, has just under 100 scenic strategically placed sand traps, and has wall-to-wall irrigation.

The drive along Cheval Boulevard past our signature holes, # 8 and # 9, is a glimpse of what our golfers experience, a challenging yet enjoyable day of golf.

The golf course underwent an extensive renovation in 2008, including new Champions Bermuda greens and completely renovated bunkers.

"A good friend of mine from Carnoustie told me one day when we were out playing a round on the Scottish Monster that, "St. Andrews has the history and we have the golf course".  After my little golf vacation to end the season in Florida this week, that saying holds true on this side of the pond also.  After playing Orange County national and champions fates courses - just a great experience, but I saved the best for last - Cheval.

They might have the rankings in magazines & polls, but you have got the golf course by a major mile.  I cannot think of a better course to finish off my 2009 golf season.  From the first tee to the 18th green, it was a work of art:  mentally stimulating, physically challenging- a pure treat.

It would be a shame to not let people experience this Florida gem - golfers will relish the opportunity to play Cheval.  I can hardly wait to return to Florida - Cheval could become an addiction.  Thank you for allowing us to play the course.  It ranks right up there with the very best in the world."
